Biography

GARNER - Hilda C. Bell, 96, of Garner died Wednesday (April 21, 2010) at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Hilda Charlotte Bell, the daughter of August and Rosa (Bredlow) Kropp, was born August 22, 1913 on a farm southwest of Garner. She graduated from Garner High School in 1933. After graduation she worked for Goodrich and Bethke in Garner. On September 19, 1939, she was married to Kenneth E. Bell at Klemme. They lived on a farm southeast of Klemme until 1942 when they moved into Garner. Hilda worked various jobs in the Garner area including Prairie View Apartments where she retired from at the age of 78. In 2004, she moved from her home to Prairie View and in 2006 entered Concord Care Center. She enjoyed her family, crocheting, gardening, baking chocolate cookies and playing bingo and cards.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner, UMW and belonged to a women's bowling league for many years.

Hilda is survived by her two sons, Don (Bette) Bell of Garner and Larry (Jean) Bell of Garner; six grandchildren, Vicky Bell of Mason City, Blaine (Jennifer) Bell and their two sons, Carson and Grant of Fitchburg, WI, Scott Bell and his two children, Kenny and Allison of Garner, Boyd (Andrea) Bell and their two children, Libby and Sam of Erie, CO, Tracy (Mark) Remmes and their two sons, Jacob and Nicholas of Eden Prairie, MN and Kristy (Travis) Bierle of Nevada; a sister, Viola Kropp of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, Oct. 6, 1990; her parents; sisters, Lucille Drugg, Relma Finn and Neva Hartzell; and brothers, Gilbert, Barney, Orville and Lester Kropp.

i enjoyed your Mother so much. Hilda bowled on our bowling league for many years. She would get a strike and shrug her shoulders and have a big smile on her face. A nice lady. Mary Sniezek

Don, Betty, Vicki, Blaine, Scott and Boyd. I didn't get to spend much time with Hilda but I really liked her. She was spunky, funny, kind and loving. Her photo says it all better than I can.

To Don, Betty, Jean, Larry and families, We knew your mother and dad for a long time, but your mother and I enjoyed each other when we both worked at the Prairie View apartments, trading receipes,talking about those OLD folks that lived there, and so on. I will miss her too, and am glad you all have so many wonderful memories about your quiet, fun loving, mother. She loved all of you and were so prowd of the grandchildren. Darlene and Jim
