FOREST CITY - Adell "Cookie" Suby, age 80 of Forest City, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.



A Celebration of Life will be held for Cookie on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immaneul Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to service at the church.



Inurnment will be a private family service at Oakland Cemetery.





Adell (Cookie) Suby was born in Fertile, Iowa on February 23, 1929, the son of Elbin and Beulah (Hoveland) Suby. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.





In Fertile, Cookie had a cream route, hauled lime and was also employed at the Quarry. At night heíd roller skate and thatís where he met the love of his life at the Forest City rink. He was such a professional skater in his own quiet way and was eventually asked by Rose Severson for the ìLadiesí Choiceî skate. That was a door opener for a wonderful romance. From then on they skated together three nights a week.





On March 31, 1950 he married Rose at the Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Jan, Jerry and Terry. Cookie was employed by Harry Ricketts doing electrical work until he was offered a job in 1954 at the Forest City Light Plant where he remained for 36 years.





Adell was a wonderful faithful husband and great father who always took time to mentor his children and help with their needs. He built two new homes and remodeled 10 locally to add to the income to provide well for his family. Rose was always at his side, holding up the other end of the sheet rock.





Survivors are his wife Rose and three children; Jan (Randy) Groves of Forest City; Jerry Suby of Wolford, IA and Terry (Chrys Marie) of Edina, MN, six grandchildren, a brother, Norman Suby of Clear lake, IA, sisters Elsie Mae (Leo) Chisholm of Osage and Sondra Oswald of Johnston, IA and sister-in-law Vicky of Arizona.





He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arden and Ron Suby
