FOREST CITY - Arthur L. Gilbertson, age 72 of Forest City, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Muse Norris Hospice

Inpatient Unit in Mason City.





Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.







Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Monday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home and will continue an hour prior to services at the church.



Arthur L. Gilbertson was born on June 7, 1937, in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Einard and Ruth (Schneider) Gilbertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Forest Lutheran Church in Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School. He continued his education at Waldorf College.



Art served in the US Army. He was united in marriage to Sharon Madsen on December 29, 1963 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in Austin, MN. The couple made their home in Forest City where Art worked for Dick Thompson Construction, eventually building the house he and Sharon lived in.



Art worked for the US Postal Service, recently retiring as a letter carrier after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked a bit at the Forest City Ford Garage and combined his love of golfing with working part-time at the Forest City Golf Course. He enjoyed sports and never missed a chance to cheer on the Green Bay Packers or Boston Celtics. He was a member of Forest City American Legion Post 121.



Art also loved racing and sprint cars, spending many weekends at the Knoxville Race Track and was a member of the pitcrew for Stacey Redman.



Art is survived by his wife Sharon; brother-in-law Gary (GeorgAnna) Madsen; sister-in-law Arlette (Gary) Jensen; nephews Allan and Jared, nieces Laura and Rachel and other extended family and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janice Peterson, nieces Debra, Jodi and Shaun and a nephew, John Monson.
