BRITT - Betty M. Whetstone, 88, of Britt died Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, January 12th at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with Rev. Jason Boomgarden officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Betty Whetstone Memorial Fund.

Betty May Whetstone, the daughter of Lars "Bert" and Linda (Lorentzen) Jergensen was born June 24, 1924 in Britt. She was baptized in the Congregational church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Britt High School in 1942. Betty worked for her father in the City Meat Market and was employed as a cashier at the Chief Theatre. She also was a substitute city clerk for the City of Britt. On April 26, 1950 she became the bride of her pen pal, Frank Whetstone, at the home of her parents. They lived in Pattonsburg, MO for three months and then returned to Britt. They were blessed with two daughters, Robin and Roberta. After Frank passed away in February of 1997 she continued to live in Britt. In 2004 she became a resident of Heritage Care Center in Mason City. Betty enjoyed going on bus trips. Her most prized memory was being the daughter of a Danish immigrant and she dubbed herself a "Great Dane". She loved her family with all her heart.

She was a member of the Britt VFW Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Robin Whetstone of Mason City and Roberta (Mike) Patterson of Owatonna, MN; two grandsons, Cory (Mandy) Champney of Moline, IL and Clinton (Angie) Champney of Bancroft; four great grandsons, Seth, Trevor, Brandon and Edward Champney; and a nephew, Larry (Rosie) Oustad of Mankato, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; sister, Marian (Clarence) Oustad; and several cousins.
