Darlene B. Hanna was born at the Beadle House in Hancock County, southeast of Forest City, Iowa on September 1, 1933, the daughter of Osmund and Bessie (Olson) Torkelson. She attended country school until the 7th grade when she began school in Forest City, graduating from Forest City High School in 1951.

On October 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Marvin Hanna at the Beadle House. Darlene helped Marvin on the farm and raised her children. She worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City for over 20 years. In 1962, at the age of 29, she accepted Christ as her personal savior.

Darlene loved to garden and was a talented seamstress ~ she enjoyed quilting and could patch-up blue jeans like new. She and Marvin liked to share fresh donuts with their neighbors.

Darlene wanted her whole family in Heaven with her. She was the family "prayer warrior" - always caring more for others than herself.

She is survived by her husband Marvin of Forest City and five children: Daryl (Cindy) Hanna of Forest City; Gloria (Mike) Gruis of Forest City; Bernal (Kathy) Hanna of Forest City; Eileen (Dean) Holland of Buffalo Center and Janelle (Jay) Erdman of Duncan. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a brother, Orrin (Marian) Torkelson of Forest City and three sisters; Thelma Sunde and Julaine Albertson, both of Forest City and Louise Jermeland of Mason City and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Torkelson and Linda Kesler, both of Forest City.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and five brothers.
