FOREST CITY - Dell E. Book, age 82 of Forest City, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.



Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Barb Spaulding officiating.



Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7th from 4 to 7 PM at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St Forest City IA.



Inurnment will be a private family service held at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.



Dell Edwin Book was born on a farm near Forest City, Iowa on July 17, 1925, the son of Swedish immigrants, Otto Olaf and Ida (Martinson) Book. After graduating from eighth grade, he worked on the family farm. He received his High School Equivalency Diploma in 1983 at 57 years of age, fulfilling a life-long dream to graduate from high school.





On March 18, 1948, he was married to Wanda Hanson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Just prior to his marriage he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.





After their marriage, Dell farmed until 1967. During his farming career, he was a meat cutter at the Forest City Locker for 14 years. He then became employed at Winnebago Industries, retiring in 1994. After retirement, he continued as groundskeeper for Winnebago Industries for many years.





In retirement, Dell enjoyed playing cards on Saturday afternoons and going to Diamond Jo's. Weekdays were spent at Kathyís tax and accounting business where he greeted clients and answered the phone. He greatly enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life.





Dell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda, and their three children: Mike and Kathy Book of Waverly; Kathy and Lloyd Conrad of Forest City; and Ron and Denise Book of Waukee. He is survived by seven grandchildren: Erik Book and fiancÈe Kelly James of Tampa, FL; Courtney Book and fiancÈ Joe DeLuca of Ankeny; Tracie and John Seglem of Forest City; Trisha and Mike Quinn of Polk City; Lance and Jen Conrad of Forest City; Max and Lori Book of Waukee and Meridith Book of Waukee.





Dell is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Cole, Alli, Becca and Dru Seglem; Hudson Quinn; and Gracie Conrad. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Ray Charlson of Forest City; and brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Marlys Book of Fertile and several nieces and nephews.





Dell was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Luella Johnson and Emily Harringa; six brothers, Gustaf, Albert, Clarence, Olaf, Everett and Floyd Book.
