GARNER - Delores "Punky" M. Hejlik, 76, of Garner died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City following a yearlong battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 14th at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a rosary at 4:45 P.M. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Delores Mar Hejlik, one of seven children of Harry and Minnie (Gudmonson) Peterson, was born January 12, 1937 on their family farm near Forest City. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. Punky attended country schools near her home and graduated from Forest City High School in 1954. On October 15, 1955 she was married to Verne Hejlik at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City. They lived most of their married life in Garner where they raised their five children. She held various positions at local businesses including Monsanto, the Garner Leader, ASCS office and Goodnature's. Punky and Verne enjoyed wintering in Arizona for the past twenty years. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, doing Sudoku puzzles, reading romance novels and gardening. More than anything, she loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Punky is survived by her husband, Verne, of Garner; four children, Deb (Jim) Rygh of Lake Mills, Susie (Butch) Kozisek of Ventura, Tim (Sharon) Hejlik of Garner and Tony (Melany) Hejlik of Garner; a son-in-law, Rod Dodd of Garner; grandchildren, Michael Rygh, David Rygh, Travis Dodd, Corey Dodd, Brad (Kylee) Kozisek, Ashley (Jay) Larkin, Chelsey Kozisek, Richie Kozisek, Lincoln (Lyndi) Harms, Lance (Alicia) Hejlik, Lucas Hejlik, Justine Hejlik, Jessica Hejlik and Jamie Hejlik; great-grandchildren, Harper Larkin, Mackenzie, Chloe and Dalaney Harms, Landon, Krista and Kylee Hejlik and Evelynn McGrath; a sister, Virginia Beaman of Norwalk, CA; her twin-sister, Doris (Harley) Harms of Buffalo Center; sisters-in-law, Sally Peterson of Britt and Marge Savage of Bloomfield; brother-in-law, Harold Hejlik of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cindy Dodd; son-in-law, Richard Fisher; siblings, Harold Peterson, Maxine (Joey) Moen, Shirley (Loren) Henry and Norma (Lee) Krautkremer; and a brothers-in-law, Ken Beaman and Art (Betty) Hejlik.
