FOREST CITY – Dennis D. Harringa, 66, of Ankeny, formerly of Forest City, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, December 14th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Inurnment will be in Madison Township Cemetery south of Forest City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Schott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Dean Harringa, the son of Benjamin and Emily (Book) Harringa, was born April 11, 1949 in Forest City. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1967 and continued his education at NIACC in Mason City. On November 1, 1969 he married Judy Palas at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. They lived in Forest City where Dennis was employed at the Light Plant. Dennis also umpired girls’ softball games at Waldorf College and the north Iowa area for over thirty years. In 2007, Dennis and Judy moved to Ankeny. Dennis worked in the maintenance department at Stew Hansen Dodge in Urbandale until retiring in April of 2014. He enjoyed playing cards in the various card clubs he belonged to, playing softball and was an avid bowler for forty years. His all-time favorite activity was playing with his grandchildren.

He served as association secretary at the Super Bowl in Forest City for many years, was an Eagle Scout and Cub Scout leader.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Judy, of Ankeny; his son, Ryan (Emily) Harringa of Pleasant Hill; two grandchildren, Daniel and Chelsea Harringa; step-mother, Anna Harringa of Forest City; a brother, Dan (Kathy) Harringa of Forest City; three step-sisters, Leann Troxel of St. Cloud, MN, Becky Fisher of St. Paul, MN and Kathy Leuwerke of Thompson; a step-brother, David (Nancy) Fisher of Rapid City, SD; a brother-in-law, Lee Palas of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Danelle Harringa; parents Benjamin and Emily Harringa; parents-in-law, LuVern and Vera Palas; three step-brothers, Bob Fisher, Bob Troxel and Danny Lewerke; and a sister-in-law, Donna Palas.
