FOREST CITY - Donald L. Tibbits, age 79 of Forest City, died Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.



Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 17th, at 1:30 PM at Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Pastor Jerry Allard officiating. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.



Visitation will be Tuesday, September 16th from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.



Donald Lawrence Tibbits was born on November 1, 1928 to Ferry Pier and Elsie (Christensen) Tibbits on a farm west of Klemme, Iowa. He attended St. Johns Christian School as a child until the family moved to a farm east of Forest City, Iowa.



Don attended Mount Valley #6 Country School where he completed the eighth grade. He began working on the family farm and continued to run the farm until the mid-1980s. Along with working the farm he worked for Deluxe Products for 10 years.



In 1977 he began working for the Forest City High School as Head Night Custodian. He continued working there until his retirement in 1991.



On August 24, 1968 he married Ruth Ann Pierce at the Thompson Methodist Church. The couple had three children: Laura, Lamont and Lucas. Don liked to go camping and fishing with his family in northern Minnesota and Canada. He enjoyed reading and woodworking. After retirement he enjoyed taking trips with Ruth Ann and friends across the country to visit relatives and go to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed weekends at home spending time with friends and playing cards.



Don is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth Ann Tibbits of Forest City; his daughter Laura Tibbits Quitt and her husband Spencer of Sioux City, IA; a son Lamont Tibbits and wife Sarah with one granddaughter Isabelle of Oshkosh, WI and son Lucas Tibbits of Ames, IA. Also surviving is a sister, Doris Martin and her husband Rodger of Floyd, IA.



Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his half-brother.
