SCARVILLE - Donald M. Schroader, 79, of Scarville passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M, Wednesday, April 30th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Kiester, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. Forest City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville or Hospice of North Iowa.
Donald Marlin Schroader, the son of Robert and Bevian (Randall) Schroader, was born June 16, 1934 at Lake Mills. He grew up in the Vinje area and attended country school through the 8th grade. He graduated from Kiester High School in 1952 where he played football and baseball. Don was voted Homecoming King his senior year in high school. On July 11, 1954, he married Beverly Johnson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kiester. They were blessed with two sons, Paul and Thomas. Don was employed as a truck driver his entire adult life. He worked for Winnebago Industries as an over-the-road driver from 1971 to 1998 when he retired. He then continued to drive for 'Bago for another 14 years as a substitute and fill in driver until his health began to fail. He logged well over 3 million miles. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors with his sons and grandsons. A favorite summer activity was tractor rides with his 1650 Oliver.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Farming of Yesteryear and volunteered his time and work.
Don is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Scarville; his sons, Paul Schroader of Britt and Thomas (Jill) Schroader of Forest City; grandchildren, Melissa (Troy) Vaudt of Buffalo Center, Dexter Schroader of Mason City, Tricia Schroader of Minneapolis, MN and Natalia Stimac of Minneapolis, MN; and four great grandchildren, Sidney Walton, Brett Walton, Ryann Vaudt, and Kinley Vaudt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bevian; and an infant brother.
