FOREST CITY - Doris G. Hovda, 80, of Forest City, died Monday (January 26, 2009) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.



Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Forest Home Cemetery in Leland.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., in Forest City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.



Memorials may be given in her name.



Doris Adele Hovda, the daughter of G.W. and Adele (Ranum) Goodnight, was born July 18, 1928 on a farm near Knob Noster, Missouri. She moved with her family in 1938 to a farm near Buffalo Center and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1946. Doris received her normal training at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught in the rural schools of Winnebago County. On December 20, 1947, she was married to Ernest Joseph Hovda at Ellis Point Methodist Church near Buffalo Center. They lived on various farms in Winnebago County until 1964, when they moved to Leland. In 1967, they moved into Forest City. Doris had worked at Fryer Farms, Juenís Highway Cafe, Grohaven Nursing Home and Winnebago Industries where she retired from in 1993. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, quilting, genealogy, going to auctions and traveling. Her favorite trip was traveling to Norway with Ernest in 1977 to visit relatives.



Doris attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Forest City.



She is survived by her children, Caryn (Roger) Schueler of Ottawa, IL, Ted (Susan) Hovda of Garner, Nancy (Donald) Stanford of Riverside, CA, Mary (Jim) Lund of Forest City and Patty (Randy) Volsen of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Tim (Mary) Schueler, Scott (Kim) Schueler, Chris (Heather) Schueler, Jamie (Maggie) Hovda, Lee (Katie) Hovda, Margaux Hovda, Nikki Stanford, Corrie Stanford, Michael (Diane) Lund, Jeffrey Lund, Gary Lund, Ashley Volsen and Joshua Volsen; ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Alan (Joan) Goodnight of Ft. Myers, FL and Charles Goodnight of Bricelyn, MN; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, Dec. 13, 1991; her parents; a great granddaughter, Kristen Schueler; and a brother, William Goodnight.
