GARNER - Dorothy J. Winters Jeter, 84, of Garner died Sunday (October 30, 2011) at Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with Pastor Justin Asche officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date in Ogden.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Wednesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St. in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Dorothy Jeanette Winters Jeter, the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Stewart) Quintus, was born December 30, 1926 on a farm east of Garner. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner. Dorothy graduated from Garner High School in 1945. Following graduation, she moved to Des Moines and was employed at a dental office. She was married to Merle Winters at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner. They lived in Ogden where Dorothy worked at the Ogden Locker, City State Bank, Ogden Community Schools and then returned to City State Bank where she worked until her retirement. Dorothy was also the church secretary and custodian with her husband, Merle, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden for many years. On April 17, 1993 she was married to Harold "Dean" Jeter in Ogden. They lived in Des Moines, Lake of the Ozarks and Ocala, FL until 2006 when they moved to Garner. In November of 2010 Dorothy became a resident of Prairie View Apartments in Garner. She enjoyed attending church and volunteering.

She was a member of the Garner United Presbyterian Church, UPW and O.E.S.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Parker Winters of Boone and his friend, Annie Appenzeller; grandson, Jared "J.D." Winters of Boone; three step-sons, Michael Jeter, Mark (Laurie) Jeter and Marlin Jeter; a sister, Virginia (Harlan) Haberkamp of Garner; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Quintus of Brooklyn Park, MN, Phyllis Quintus of Hampton, Verneil Quintus of Garner and Lynne Quintus of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Merle in 1990; second husband, Dean in 2009; a sister, Margaret Allen; and four brothers, Dean, Jim, Jerry, and Don Quintus.
