FOREST CITY - Eldon D. Indvik, age 81 of Forest City, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Boyd Longshore and Pastor Wayne Halvorson officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St in Forest City and an hour prior to service at the church.

Burial will be at West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Thompson, Iowa with graveside military rites by Legion VFW Post 6161 and Forest City American Legion Post 121.

Eldon (Babe) Indvik was born on January 10, 1929 in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Sidney and Sylvia (Peterson) Indvik. He was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Thompson, Iowa.

He served in the military in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and received the Purple Heart. He farmed with his brother, Lowell, for many years. He also worked for Cole Sewell for several years upon retiring. He was a life-time member of Leland VFW Post 6161 and Forest City American Legion Post 121.

Babe served on the Thompson Elevator Board for several years; was a town trustee; served on the church board for Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson and on the church board for Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and visiting with his family and friends. Babe passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City at the age of 81 years.

He is survived by his brother Lowell (Melva) Indvik and three nephews: Mark (Nancy) Carlson, Tim (Annette) Carlson and Dan (Deb) Carlson, their children; Josh McCartney, Brian Hagey, Brooke Carlson (Clint and Jack Gustafson), Matthew Carlson, Benjamin Carlson, and several cousins.

Babe was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
