Elsie Clarissa Osmundson

Elsie C. Osmundson, age 96 of Forest City, died Friday, March 31, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 6 from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home. Graveside committal service will take place on Friday, April 7 at 10:00 AM at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.





Elsie Clarissa Osmundson was born in Fosston, Minnesota on August 4, 1909, the daughter of Ole. R and Belle (Helland) Vaaler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Fosston High School in 1926. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, graduating in 1930. She taught school in Lancaster and Kimball, Minnesota.





She married John M. Osmundson on June 19, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple lived in Northfield and Winona, Minnesota before moving to Forest City in 1936. Mr. Osmundson was in business as an agent for Equitable of Iowa and with Peoples State Bank of Thompson, Iowa.





Following his death in 1967, Mrs. Osmundson worked part-time for over ten years in the Waldorf College Library. She was a member of the Forest City Library Board for 35 years and held memberships in many other civic clubs and organizations. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a part of many activities, and was a member for 60 years in PEO.





Elsie also treasured the fellowship of several bridge clubs. She and her husband were avid golfers and for years enjoyed their membership at the Forest City Country Club.





Elsie died on Friday, March 31, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.





She is survived by nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, in 1967, her son, James Vaaler Osmundson, in 1954 and three sisters.
