Henry V. Hanson

Henry V. Hanson, 84, of Forest City died Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church, 546 West M. St. Forest City with Rev. Wayne Halvorson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, IA. Inurnment will be in the Center Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Leland. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Henry Hanson memorial fund.

Henry V. Hanson was born March 22, 1930 in Leland, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Lenora (Matthews) Hanson. He served in the United States Army for three years during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. He was married to Ruby Carlson on May 31, 1953 in Anchorage, AK, to this union five children were born. Henry has been a long time Forest City resident, working for Winnebago Industries for thirty years until his retirement. He was a member of the Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was active in many roles. He enjoyed camping and fishing and spending time with his family and friends, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Henry is survived by his wife, Ruby of Forest City; children, Donald (Verlene) Hanson of Fertile, Daniel Hanson of Forest City, Terry (Sheila) of Forest City, Dottie (Kenneth) Suby of Leland; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Baumann of Lakota, Robert (Ilene) Hanson of Garner, Ellsworth (Kathy) Hanson of Garner, Loretta Young of Garner, Verna Mae Eggerth of Garner and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jerry Hanson in 2002; brother, Herbert Hanson; three brother-in-laws, Ray Young, Walter Eggerth, and Kenny Baumann; granddaughter, Theresa Suby; great-granddaughter, Bethany Hanson and nephew, Jay Hanson.
