LELAND - Jannethe E. Solyst, 104, of Leland died Saturday (June 18, 2011) at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service at the church.
Jannethe E. Solyst was born on March 4, 1907 in McCallsburg, Iowa, the daughter of John E. and Minnie (Holm) Solyst. She was baptized in the Bethel Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, As a small child she moved with her family to Belmond, Iowa where she attended kindergarten. The family later moved to Forest City where she attended grade school and high school, graduating from Forest City High School. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.
She continued her education at Waldorf College. Upon graduation, she attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, graduating with a BA Degree in English. She took additional business classes at Waldorf college and a Library Science course at the University of Minnesota.
Jannethe taught in high schools in Minnesota and Iowa as a Drama Coach and Music Director. She coached plays, directed high school girl's chorus and trained speech students. During World War II, she worked in Washington DC and Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she held business positions in several places. Following her teaching career, she worked for a time at City Hall in Forest City.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in Circle and WELCA and belonged to the Twentieth Century Club in Forest City.
Jannethe is survived by a sister, Wilma Belsheim of Leland, 2 brothers, Jalmer Solyst of Leland and Ephraim Solyst of Kerkhoven, Minnesota, seven nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Holm and a sister, Harriet.
