LAKE MILLS: John C. White, 92, of Lake Mills died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.
No formal services will be held here, they will be held in Shickley, Nebraska at a later date.
John Creston White was born on September 11. 1919 near Corinth, Mississippi to Anna C. and Benjamin F. White. In 1921 the family moved to Arkansas, settling near Wynore. He attended rural Cross County School where he excelled in athletics and graduated from Wynore in 1939. He enlisted in the USAF in 1940, serving in England, North Africa and Italy during World War II. He entered the University of Arkansas in 1945 and graduated in 1949.
He married Eleanor Carlson of Shickley, Nebraska in 1946. They had two sons; Ronald in 1949 and Mylan in 1950. He taught school in Missouri from 1949 to 1951. The family moved to Cedar Falls in June of 1951 where he was employed as Director of Recreation for 17 years. He then served as the first Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Muscatine for 11 years. He was living in Charles City upon his retirement in 1981. In 2004 he moved to Lake Mills. He loved people, his church, fishing, hunting, golf and sports.
He is survived by one son, Mylan and Karen; one brother, Luke and Ann; two grandchildren, Julie and Tony and Daniel and Denise; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald; his wife of 52 years Eleanor; his daughter-in-law, Karen; his parents; his brother, Jesse; and his sister, Hattye.
His ashes will be interred in Shickley, Nebraska next to his wife and son at a later date.
