Larry J. Schisel, 84, of Garner died Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 13th at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a Scriptural wake service at 4:30 P.M. followed by a rosary. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Larry Jerome Schisel, the son of John and Galya (Walkner) Schisel, was born May 24, 1934 in Garner. He graduated from Garner High School in 1952. On November 26, 1955 he married Linda Engstler at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They lived in Garner all of their married life where they raised their five children. Larry worked for 48 years at the Hancock County REC in Garner until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, he was a crossing guard at the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura elementary school for a number of years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending their sporting events. Larry was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Vikings and GHV athletics.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and served in the Garner Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Larry is survived by his wife, Linda, of Garner; five children, Julie Montag of Rockford, IA, Pat (Bill) Doble of Garner, Lisa (Tom) Huinker of Garner, Sara (Jason) Gayken of Garner and Joe (Stacy) Schisel of Garner; grandchildren, Callie (Dana) Hillman, Megan (Greg) Hagen, Staci (Justin) Hein, Jasmine Doble (fiancé, Anthony Church), Ashley (James) Flatebo, Alyssa (Casey) Nevill, Gwen (Greg) Jass, Dylan Mahlstedt, Lane Gayken, Isaac Gayken, Jaxon Gayken, Aidan Schisel and Bella Schisel; great grandchildren, Hannah Hillman, Harper Hillman, Mya Rimrod, Zach Flatebo, Max Flatebo, Nora Nevill, Miles Nevill and Gabby Jass; a sister, Betty (Ed) Anderson of Clear Lake; two brothers, Bob Schisel of Britt and Gary (Jean) Schisel of Garner; a sister-in-law, Bessie Schisel of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dave Montag; sister, Mavis Peterson; and brothers, Jack and Elling Lee Schisel.
