FOREST CITY - Lauretta D. Ask, age 99 of Forest City, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Concord Care Center in Garner.



A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating.



Inurnment will be in the spring in Yankton, South Dakota. Her body has been cremated and there will be no visitation.



Lauretta was born to Henry and Christina Schaeffer on October 5, 1908, on a farm near Yankton, South Dakota. She attended country school through the 5th grade at which time her parents moved to Yankton. Here she joined the evangelical church where she played the piano for the Sunday School. She graduated from Yankton High School and then attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree.



In 1931 she was united in marriage to Leonard Ask. To this marriage was born a daughter, Sandra Ask Kloster. They joined the Methodist Church when they moved to Forest City.



Lauretta did substitute teaching, managed a branch of the Cherokee Bakery in Marcus, Iowa and worked as a receptionist for Dr. Alder and Dr. Rohlfsen in Forest City. She also served as a dietetic employee in the Good Samaritan Home in Forest City.



Lauretta was active in church affairs. She taught the 3rd grade Sunday School class in Marcus. She was also a member of the UMW and was Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in both Marcus and Forest City. She was also a 50-year member of the order and a past president of P.E.O.



Lauretta loved to crochet. She also enjoyed making a variety of other crafts in her spare time, baking desserts and reminiscing aout her grandsons.



Lauretta is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kloster and her husband Max of Philomath, Oregon; her grandsons, Grant Kloster and his wife Miriam of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Brian Kloster of Fort Collins, Colorado; two great-grandsons, Luke and Seth Kloster, and a great-granddaughter, Tess Kloster of Lake Owsego, Oregon.



Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and her sister.
