GARNER - Loretta V. Jahnke Armstrong, 94, of Garner died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 17th at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Loretta Verlee Jahnke Armstrong, the daughter of Earl and Lillian (Velau) Kahler, was born July 7, 1918 at Klemme. She attended Twin Lakes Township No. 3 country school near Klemme and ninth grade in Klemme. On August 20, 1937 she was married to Fred Jahnke at the Methodist parsonage in Garner. They lived in Garner where they raised their two children. Loretta was employed at Roe's Super Value, the Garner A & W and also helped Fred in their trucking business until his death in 1966. On August 15, 1970 she was married to Delos Armstrong at the United Methodist Church in Garner. They made their home in Clear Lake. In August of 2004 Loretta moved to Cardinal Grove in Garner. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, square dancing, the color red, traveling and wintering at Mission, TX for twenty years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Loretta is survived by her two children, Ronald (Ruth) Jahnke of Cedar Rapids and Judy Whitfield of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six grandchildren, Michael (Raquel) Jahnke of Sioux Falls, SD, Kimberly (David) Ackley of Ft. Myers, FL, Michelle Magwood of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Patricia Whitfield of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Elaine Whitfield of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Mike (Lauren) Whitfield of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Jackson of Lakeville, MN; three step children, Robert (Sally) Armstrong of Detroit, MI, Paul (Linda) Armstrong of Des Moines and Irene (Lyle) Alshouse of Dubuque; and several step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Fred and Delos; two sisters, Alice Gruben and Amelia Smidt; a son-in-law, Lonnie Whitfield; and a step son, James Armstrong.
