BRITT – Lucas James May, 27, of Britt died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 29th at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Revs. Robert Dodge and Joel DeBoer officiating. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with military rites by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday at the United Methodist Church in Britt and will resume one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lucas May Memorial Fund.

Lucas James May, the son of Michael and Rebecca (Kerns) May, was born December 14, 1988 in Mason City. Luke was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Britt. He graduated from West Hancock High School in 2007. Luke served his country in the U.S. Army as a 13B10 Cannon Crew Member in Afghanistan. He received the National Defense Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge. Following his honorable discharge in December of 2011, he returned to Britt where he worked on the family farm and did construction. On July 20, 2013, he married Brittany Zadow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt. Luke’s greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially with his son, Colby. He had a love of the outdoors throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stargazing, riding motorcycles and playing his guitar.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Britt American Legion.

Luke is survived by his wife, Brittany, of Britt and their son, Colby; his parents, Mike and Becky May of Britt; a brother, Nick (Lisa) May of Ankeny and their three children, Kylie, Aiden and Jaxon; two sisters, Ivy (Jason) Gardner of Wesley and their two children, Garrett and Mattie and Paige May of Milford and her special friend, Andrew Dawson; and aunts and uncles, Pamela Kerns of Garner, Patricia (Bill) Hopes of Treynor, Deborah Kerns of Adel, Linda Kerns of Omaha, NE, Tom (Peggy) May of Arvada, CO and Susie (Doug) Gayken of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Don and Betty May; maternal grandparents, Moe and Betty Kerns; a nephew, Billy Gardner; and his loyal dog, Murphy.
