FOREST CITY - Margaret E. Peterson, 91, of Forest City died Saturday (December 3, 2011) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Memorial Service will be held at a future date in the spring.

Margaret Evelyn Peterson was born on January 4, 1920 in Wallingford, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Josephine (Berdahl) Peterson, the youngest of eight children. She received her elementary education in the rural schools of Emmett County near her home.
The family moved to a farm north of Hayfield, Iowa in 1930. Margaret graduated from Hayfield Consolidated School in 1937. She lived with her family on the farm, helping with field work and chores. She worked at the A&W Restaurant in Forest City, for 18 years. Margaret had recipes published in Taste of Home's annual cookbook for 5 consecutive years, 2000-2005, along with being in the Country Woman magazine. She also published 2 cookbooks. Margaret was a wonderful baker. She entered many baking contests and won several blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair, often with recipes using unusual ingredients and flavors. In 1980 the family moved into Forest City.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active in circle. Music was an important part of her life and she was a gifted pianist, playing piano at church and for family. She always had the radio tuned to KIOW, listening to all kinds of music and waiting for her chance to win another contest!
Margaret is survived by two nieces and three nephews: Marlys Clark of Fertile and Marylou Maklenburg of Mason City; Allan Peterson of Mobile, AL, Gaylon Peterson of Miami, FL and Marvin Peterson of Clearwater, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Elmer, Maurice, Eddie, Raymond, Earl and Curtis, her sister Judith, a nephew Romane and a niece Marlene.
