GARNER - Martin L. Bachman, 83, of Garner, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 4th at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Martin Luther Bachman, the son of Martin George and Tillie (Kraus) Bachman was born on January 7, 1929, in Klemme. He graduated from Klemme High School in 1946. After graduation he worked on the family farm with his mother. On October 22, 1950 he was united in marriage to Vera Simmons at the Immanuel Reformed Church in Klemme. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Garner. He prided himself on his herd of miniature horses, longhorn cattle, raising exotic birds and enjoyed traveling to horse sales around the Midwest. In his free time Martin also enjoyed watching RFD TV and listening to country music. In 2002 Martin and Vera moved into Garner and enjoyed traveling around to visit friends and casinos. Martin's pride and joy was his family. He cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church of Garner, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vera; his two daughters, Julia (Tom) Schultz, Garner and Darla, (Jeff) Mallas, Ogden; a son, Martin (Yvette) Bachman, Garner, grandchildren, Angie (Scott) Van Dusseldorp, Garner, Tara (Tim) Eisenlohr, Mason City, Joe Schultz, Chicago, IL, Tom (Heather) Hartwig, Clear Lake, Tad (Mallory) Hartwig, Garner, Martin Nicholas Bachman, Los Angeles, CA, Samuel Bachman, Los Angeles, CA and Colton (Brittany) Bachman, Ames; great- grandchildren, Jack, Rafe, Caleb, and Emily Van Dusseldorp, Cade and Reid Hartwig, Teagen, Tatem and Talon Eisenlohr, and Piper Hartwig; a brother, Eugene (Janice) Bachman, Clear Lake; and a sister-in-law Dena Bachman, Fairbank, IA.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leroy, Alvin and Raymond; and three sisters, Edith Montgomery, Gertrude and Dorothy Bachman.
