Marvin D. Monson, 79, of Forest City, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Chuck Layton officiating.

Interment will be held in Oakland Cemetery with military honors performed by the Forest City American Legion.

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday (March 25, 2014) at Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marvin D. Monson memorial fund in care of the family.

Marvin Dennis Monson was born on November 4, 1935, to Carl and Fern (Fogue) Monson. Marvin grew up on a farm North of Leland and graduated from Lake Mills High School. Marvin married Jackie McColloch on July 30, 1954. Marvin and Jackie made their home in Forest City, where they raised their four children.

Marvin served in the United States Army as a medic during the post-Korean War. Following his service, he worked for 12 years for the State Highway Commission. He and Jackie then owned and operated Monson Appliance in Lake Mills for two years. After moving back to Forest City, Marvin worked for Winnebago Industries for 19½ years, ending his career as Winnebago’s Director of Service. During his tenure at Winnebago Industries, Marvin also owned and operated M & J Car Wash. After retirement from Winnebago, Marvin continued to run the car wash, in addition to serving as a bus driver for the Forest City Community Schools for 17 years.

Marvin was an active member of the American Legion, Forest City Fire Department (21 years), Ducks Unlimited Sponsor, Volunteer of the Year for the Bear Creek Golf Course Back 9 Project, and served on the Board of Adjustment for the City of Forest City.

Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he greatly enjoyed going to stock car races with his good friends. He and Jackie enjoyed trips to Germany, where son Craig was stationed in the Army, in addition to Portugal, Switzerland, Austria. Family events were very special to Marvin, and he loved cheering on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with their many activities. Marvin and Jackie enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona, for 14 years. He also enjoyed his special seat at Schnebly’s, where he’d spend many hours catching up on the town news, in addition to his wonderful group of Hardee’s & Bill’s breakfast-clubbers. Marvin loved his alma mater’s Lake Mills Bulldogs, where his Lake Mills granddaughters were involved in many sports, and he was a huge fan of the Forest City Indians for all sports. Go Big Red, and Go Marv!!!

Marvin is survived by his wife Jackie, and his four children, Robin (Jeff) Nelson, Julie (Mark) Pueggel, Craig (Valerie) Monson, and Teresa (Bryce) Duit; 14 grandchildren, Stacy John, Travis John, Becky (Mike) Madison, Cristy Nelson, Sammy Nelson, Darcy Nelson, Mark (Courtney) Pueggel, Emily (Brandon) Bjoraker, Syreeta (Josh) Groves, Andrew (Bethany) Monson, Isaiah Monson, Lucas Duit, Trey Duit, and Payton Duit; in addition to 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Monson; sisters, Bonnie Berndt, Carol Engstler and Arlene Bryson.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Fern and sister, Maxine Bolton.
