Monte met and married Joyce Carnes at the United Methodist Church in Early, Iowa on January 1, 1965. They raised their family in Sac City where Monte worked for Noble Manufacturing for twenty years in the Tool and Die Department. In 1978, the family moved to Garner. Monte continued his career as a tool and die maker for the next twenty years at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. His hobbies included bowling, traveling, and, of course, his love of fishing.
Monte was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Garner. He loved to sing and was a member of the church choir both in Sac City and Garner. He was active in many organizations including seventeen years in the Sac City Fire Department, thirty-three years as a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and was a member of the Garner Lions Club.
