FOREST CITY - Norman C. Ahnemann, 86, of Forest City, died peacefully Friday, November 30, 2012 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with Pastor Elaine Siemson officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, December 3, 2012 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Norman Conrad Ahnemann was born January 13, 1926 to Henry and Barbara Ahnemann in Walters, MN. He attended Alden High School, graduating in 1944. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Navy. After the service, he spent several years playing semi-professional baseball as a pitcher until he suffered a career ending injury. He met and married Joyce Ann Englehardt of Kenosha, WI on December 4, 1954 and celebrated 42 years of marriage together. They farmed near Leland, IA for many years. Together they enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling, often delivering Winnebago motor homes all over the United States. They had four children, Dan, Janeen, Nancy and Kent. Following the death of Joyce on October 20, 1996, he married Claudia Sampson, on July 29, 2000. They resided half of the year in Forest City, close to his family and half of the year in Sun City West, AZ.

Norman is survived by his wife, Claudia; his son, Dan (Vivian) Ahnemann of Clear Lake and their daughters, Brittany (Rich) Olinde of Olathe, KS, Katie (James) Drenth of Clear Lake and their children, MacKensie and Maggie; daughter, Janeen (Rick) Wolter, and their children, Alicia and Ben of LaCrescent, MN; daughter, Nancy (Steve) Helm of Forest City, and their children, Adam (Trista) Helm and great-granddaughter Hailey of Woden, Cody Helm of Des Moines, Kirk Helm of Forest City; and son, Kent (Erin) Ahnemann and their children, Cody Meyer of Indianola, IA, Camrin Meyer, Jacee and Cade Ahnemann of Aurelia, IA. He is also survived by a special family member, Marianne and her husband Rene Hansen of Denmark and their children, Mathias and Anja, a former exchange student who lived with the Ahnemann family. He is survived by several nieces and nephews as well.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents, Henry and Barbara; his brother, Elmer; and his sisters, Hazel Meyer, Ruby Ahnemann, Ruth Almberg and Myrtle Niebuhr.
