Opal L. Kitner

FOREST CITY - Opal L. Kitner, age 100 of Forest City, died Friday,
March 9, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 1:30 PM at
Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Boyd
Longshore officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in
Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, March 12,
2012 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City
and an hour prior to service at the church.

Opal L Kitner was born in Thompson, Iowa on August 15, 1911, the
daughter of Eddie and Mary (Torgerson) Ellefson.She was baptized and
confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. She received her education in
Thompson and graduated from Thompson High School.

Opal was united in marriage to Clairence Kitner on October 23, 1946.
The couple made their home in Forest City their entire married lives.
Opal was a member of Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City
where she served as Treasurer of the Ladies Aid. For many years she
was an active member of the Winnebago County Election Board, a
responsibility she took very seriously.

Opal loved to bake. She was a wonderful kringla maker and did a lot of
canning. She treasured time spent with her family.

Opal is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Boyd of Forest City;
granddaughter Mary (Chris) Gilbert of Sheldon; three great
granddaughters, Hollie (Dave) Sarnoski, Heidi Kunkel and Heather
Kunkel and five great-great-grandchildren, Drew, Katelyn, Ella, Lily
and Liam.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clairence in
1993, brother Marion Ellefson and sisters Mildred Perry and Carole
Wooldridge.
