FOREST CITY - Pearl R. Peters, age 94 of Forest City, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City with Pastor Randy Vaage of Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Pearl Ruby Peters, the daughter of Halvor and Josephine (Beckjordan) Halvorson, was born on October 12, 1916 in Leland, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church. Pearl attended the rural schools east of Leland. When she was 8 years old her father died and she and her siblings helped her mother on the farm. Pearl graduated from Leland High School in 1935.
On March 9, 1937 she was united in marriage to Burt Edward Peters at the Winnebago Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple farmed near Forest City for several years. In 1954 they moved to their farm near Hinckley, Minnesota. They were members of the First Lutheran Church in Hinckley. In 1977 Pearl attended the area Vocational Institute of Pine City, Minnesota. Through attending the Institute, she obtained certification as a Home Health Aide.
On May 3, 1988 her husband Burt passed away. In 1991 Pearl moved to Forest City, Iowa. She served as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City for many years. She enjoyed her family, cooking, baking, doing crafts, reading, music and making quilts for missions. She was a gracious hostess with a gift for hospitality.
Pearl is survived by two children: Byron (Peggy) Peters and Bonnie Torkelson; seven grandchildren: Allen Peters, Jason Peters, Quentin Peters, John Torkelson Jr, Bradley Torkelson, Andrea (Dr. Kevin) Welch and Rachel Torkelson, step-granddaughter, Dr. Denise Lago; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Burt, sisters Lillian, Bella, Florence, Amie and Dewie, a brother Manford and son-in-law John M. Torkelson.
