GARNER - Regina "Jean" Ryan, 98, of Garner died Friday (March 9, 2012) at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 12th at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to5 P.M., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 2 P.M. and a Scriptural wake service at 5 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hancock County Relay for Life or the School Sisters of Notre Dame at Mankato.

Regina "Jean" A. Ryan, the youngest of twelve children of John and Mary (Elbert) Henry, was born September 11, 1913 on a farm near Whittemore. She graduated from Presentation Academy in Whittemore in 1932. After graduating from high school she worked as a secretary in various businesses in Kossuth county and as an office manager at Bowen Food Stores in Forest City. On February 7, 1948 she was married to Raymond J. Ryan at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. They made their home in Garner where they raised their two daughters, Mary and Kathleen. Besides being a homemaker, Jean also worked in the office at her husband's veterinary clinic in Garner. She enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino and playing bridge. She will always be remembered by her family as a great cook and baker. Jean was always interested in following and being part of the life events of her grandchildren. In recent years, she was very delighted when her great-grandchildren visited and she could watch their playful antics.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas , past member of Hancock County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and several bridge clubs.

Jean is survived by her husband, Dr. Raymond Ryan, of Garner; two daughters, Mary (Roger) Kopacek of Britt and Kathleen (Pat) McCabe of Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Kara Steffensmeier, Andrew Kopacek, Ryan McCabe, Joseph (Virginia) McCabe and Jonathan McCabe; and four great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew and Aidan Steffensmeier and Gisele McCabe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and five sisters
