FOREST CITY - Robert "Bob" Keel, age 90 of Forest City, died Saturday, April 9, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City with Graveside Military Rites by Forest City American Legion Post 121.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, April 13th at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.

Robert Dale Keel was born on July 19, 1920 at home on his parents' farm west of Forest City, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Winnifred (Nonnweiler) Keel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. Bob was raised on the farm that was homesteaded by his great-grandparents. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Forest City High School in 1937. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was married to Evelyn Youngquist on March 8, 1945 at the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Together, they raised their family and farmed the five generation farm. Farming was Bob's life and he did it well. He was known to be a very hard worker, but he always took time to enjoy the friendship of his neighbors and time with his family.

Bob was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City, held a life membership in the American legion and the VFW, was a charter member of the Forest City FFA, and he gave 40 years of service to ASCS. Deer hunting was his favorite hobby where he could spend time in his favorite place, God's nature. Those who knew him loved his great sense of humor. In his later years he touched several lives with his many visits to friends who were ill, home-bound, or living in care facilities.

Bob will always be remembered and loved by his three children: Tom (Bev) Keel of Reedsburg, WI; Linda (Jim) Westensee of Lakefield, MN; and Bill (Sarah) Keel of Forest City. Also surviving are his grandchildren: April Jones, Jennifer (Mike) Cole, Nicky (Mark) Nel, Matt Keel, Kelli Keel and Tanner Keel; his great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ally and Shane; his sister Eva Olson, his aunt Dorothy Christensen and two nieces and three nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Evie and his parents.
