ROBERT "BOB" BENSON

FOREST CITY - Robert "Bob" Benson, 89, of Forest City died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, August 4th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rodd Hopp officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Petersen Lund Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Everett Benson, the son of Torsten (Tom) and Hannah (Vorland) Benson, was born November 18, 1923 on a farm north of Britt. He attended country school near his home until the eighth grade and then helped his family on the farm. On August 13, 1945, he married Katherine Jessie Rollefson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They lived in the Forest City area where they farmed and raised their family. Besides his farming, Bob worked at Neils Spur Elevator and was an original employee for Chuck Holland in the tiling business. Following Jessie's death in December, 1992 he continued to live on the farms, northeast of Forest City and farmed until his retirement at the age of 80. On April 29, 2013 he married Diane Engebretson Schisel in Forest City. Bob enjoyed training, riding, and showing horses, baseball, golfing, motorcycles, playing pool, and dancing.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Eagle's Club.

Bob is survived by his wife, Diane, of Forest City; five children, David Benson of Lake Mills, Lynn (Marcia) Benson of Ventura, Lori (Brian) Tomasek of Cedar Rapids, Randi Benson of Forest City and Steven (Susan) Benson of Northwood; two step-daughters, Lori Glenn of Cedar Rapids and Wanda (Kyle) Schisel of Coggon, IA; grandchildren, Sheldon (Tenisha) Benson, Travis (Amy) Benson, Aaron Benson, Logan Benson, Coltn Benson, Hunter Benson, Dakota Glenn, Nick Glenn, Kyle Glenn, Breckyn Betenbender and Kasyn Betenbender; great-grandchildren, Annika, Toni, Rebecca, Brandi, Kelsey, Karson, and Kourtney; three sisters, Marjorie Anderson of Forest City, Dorothy Etzen of Forest City and Thelma Smith of Grand Junction, CO; a sister-in-law, Blanche Benson of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jessie, December 2, 1992; brothers, Norman, Vance, and Victor Benson; sister, Alice Gerdes; step-daughter, Jody Schisel; grandson, Derek Benson; and granddaughter, Morgan Betenbender.
