Shirley A. Henning, age 75 of rural Fertile, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inaptient Unit in Mason City. Funeral service will be Friday, June 23 at 10:30 AM at Pilot Knob Lutheran Church in rural Forest City with Pastor Robert Snitzer officiating. Burial will be in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, June 22 at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church.
Shirley Ann Henning, the daughter of James and Martha (Johnson) Wentworth was born on November 26, 1930 in Buffalo Center, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Buffalo Center.
On December 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Ernest Henning. From this blessed union six children were born. Ernest and Shirley farmed around Kiester, Minnesota and rural Fertile all their married lives. Shirley was also employed outside the home. She worked for Winnebago Industries for many years and retired in 1991. She also kept the books for the family farm and mowing business.
Shirley loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and cherished her family. She was a member of Pilot Knob Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are: Ernie Henning Jr. of Forest City; Gary (Linda) Henning of Stevensville, MT; Marion (Gary) Prevot of Lakewood, WA; Robert Henning of Forest City; Herman (Marlene) Henning of Leland; Doug (Ruth) Henning of Fertile; Sherry (Greg) Flugum of Forest City; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister, Myrna (Larry) Akers of Exira, IA and five brothers: Douglas (Darlene) Wentworth of Forest City; Steven (Ardelle) Wentworth of Brainerd, MN; Jimmy (Elaine) Wentworth of Brainerd, MN; Kerry Wentworth of Thompson, IA and Alan (Evi) Wentworth of Englewood, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, her parents and grandparents, sisters: Gloria Berhow, Marilyn Cherry, Norma Yeries, Maureen who died in infancy, and brothers Arlan and Marion, who died as infants.
