FERTILE - Virgil O. Lovik, 84, of Fertile died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile, Iowa with Lay Pastor David Halverson officiating.

Burial will be at Grant Center Cemetery in rural Clear Lake.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Friday, September 7, 2012 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home - 505 N. Clark Street - Forest City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Virgil O. Lovik, the son of Swen and Hilma (Strand) Lovik was born September 9, 1927. He attended school at Grant #6 School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945, the following year, he received a medical discharge.

He married Romane Humphrey of Fertile on January 11, 1948. They farmed in the Ventura and Joice area and moved into Fertile in 1987.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Romane of Fertile; three children, Mary (Craig) Anderson, Sioux Falls, S.D., Mark (Virginia) Lovik, Joice and Marie (Michael) Oleson of Forest City; grandchildren, Ben (Erin) Anderson, Brooke (Adam) Ryan, Britney (Eric) Olson, Nathan (Kim) Lovik, Laura (Paul) Beatty, Marissa (Dallas) Koeneke, Molly Oleson and her finance Justin Uhlenhopp; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Luke, Roman Knox, Ashton, Benson, Hailey, Garrett, Gage and Hailynn; sister and brother-in-law Geraldine (Leonard) Washburn and several nieces and nephews and his special combining buddy, Jeremy Kostelecky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene and Edythe; brothers, Harry, Lloyd, Norman, Orville, Roy and Duane and a stillborn granddaughter Ann Anderson.
