GARNER - Virginia J. Ouderkirk, 85, of Garner died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, April 9th at Western Cemetery in Orion, IL.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Virginia Josephine Ouderkirk, the daughter of Lester and Sarah (White) Hill, was born August 19, 1928 at Moline, IL. She graduated from Orion High School in 1946 and Western Illinois Teacher's College in Macomb, IL with an associate's degree. After college she worked at John Deere in Moline. On August 28, 1949 she was married to R. Elmer Ouderkirk, Jr. at the Methodist Church in Orion. They lived in several Iowa cities before moving to Garner in 1997. Besides being a homemaker, Virginia also worked outside the home as a dietary aide at the Lake Mills Nursing Home and hospital in Atlantic. In her retirement years she enjoyed doing volunteer work delivering Meals on Wheels and helping at the hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, camping, traveling, shopping and decorating her home. She always liked to keep herself busy.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner and UMW.

Virginia is survived by her children, Larry (Mary Lou) Ouderkirk of Frederick, MD, Linda (Duane) Jurgemeyer of Klemme, Bruce (Nancy) Ouderkirk of Eau Claire, WI, Sandra Olson of Altoona, Sheryl (Steven) Greene of New Richmond, WI and Sara (Eric) Wester of Cleghorn, IA; fifteen grandchildren, Mike Ouderkirk, Kathleen (Pierre) Daze', Megan (Theodore) Matthews, Amy (Tom) Pruett, Lisa (Shelby) Kobes, Kimberly (Mike) Mefferd, Cristy Patten, Melissa (Gavin) McCann, Jason (Han) Olson, Laura Olson, Cody and Bryan Greene, and Kyle, Andrea and Christopher Wester; seven great-grandchildren, Mya Foelske, Mandy and Jenny Pruett, Conner and Brayden Kobes, Grace Walker-Mefferd and Wyatt McCann; and a sister-in-law, Sara Jane Hill of Dunedin, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer, Oct. 5, 2009; an infant daughter, Pamela Sue; son-in-law, Rodney Olson; and brother, Robert Hill.
