Virginia L. Meinecke

Virginia L. Meinecke, 93, of Forest City died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at the Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, (May 22, 2015) at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland with Pastor Richard Heinlen officiating. Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday (May 21, 2015) at Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, Iowa.

Virginia was born July 4, 1921, the daughter of Rudolph and Evelyn (Anderson) Finer, and was raised in rural Thompson, Iowa. In April of 1942, she married John (Bob) Severson, with whom she raised a family in Leland. As a widow, she found love again and married Alvin Meinecke in October of 1988.

She was involved in her church community and spent much of her time with her 10 brothers and sisters, three children, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her July 4th birthday was cause for celebration each year, with memorable parties on her 65th and 90th birthdays. She enjoyed many winters in Texas with family and friends. Even at 93, she still had her driver’s license, YMCA membership and library card, and continued playing cards weekly with her dear friends.

Virginia is survived by her son, Roger Severson of Des Moines, IA, and daughters Karen Hopson of St. Louis Park, MN, and Susan Totty (Jim) of Harrisonburg, VA; grandchildren Jennifer (Travis) Swendseid of Minnetonka, MN, Lara (Chris Regan) Severson of San Diego, CA, Jonathan (Dana Schrenk) Ruth of Raleigh, NC, and Amanda (Ryan) Soer of Charlottesville, VA; three great grandchildren; six siblings; and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, four siblings, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
