Wanda Jean Tweeten

FOREST CITY -Wanda Tweeten, age 87 of Forest City died Tuesday (November 22, 2011) at the
Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 26th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm.on Friday, November 25th at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street in Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.

Wanda Jean Tweeten was born in Mason City, Iowa on September 24, 1924 the daughter of Carl and Golda (Evans) Whorley. She received her education in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. After graduation she worked at the Northwestern Cement Plant and for the Bell Telephone Company.
She met Orville Tweeten at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake when he was in the US Navy. They were united in marriage on March 4, 1946 in Mason City. To this union three children were born. The couple made their home in Forest City where Wanda worked at Great Western and the Forest City Summit. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and loved being in the kitchen helping to serve for funerals and other events. She enjoyed picnics at the lake, eating at her favorite restaurants and playing cards with her friends.
Wanda treasured time spent with her family and especially her dear childhood friend, Pat Haensch.
Wanda is survived by three children: Ann (Gary) Gerdes of Forest City; Linda Tweeten & Sue Stone of Garner; and Janet (Lynn) Richards of Des Moines. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Jodie Steen, Ryan Richards and Cassie Davenport; four great-grandchildren; Nicole Steen, Danny Davenport, Cobe Eischen and Emily Davenport; sisters-in-law Arlene Grimm, Kay Larson and Darlene Tweeten and a brother-in-law Lehman (Delores) Tweeten.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Beulah Whorley, husband Orville in 1999, brother William (Bill) Whorley, sister Marion Hornberger, brothers-in-law Walden Tweeten, Melvin Larsen and Bob Grimm and sister-in-law Alice Worley.
