Wayne Eldon Rasmus, the son of Irwin and Thyra (Hansen) Rasmus, was born June 14, 1927 in Mason City. He graduated from Garner High School in 1945 and farmed with his father on the family farm north of Garner. On March 25, 1951 he married Laurine Halverson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Wayne served his country during the Korean Conflict from April 1951 to March of 1952. He was assigned to the Army Artillery 21st Antiaircraft Artillery AW Battalion. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm in Garner. In 1961, he left farming and worked for the U.S. Post Office in Garner for thirty years until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed his two dogs, riding his Harley Davidson 1948 Panhead and sharing his memories about his military service. He also enjoyed researching genealogy and was very proud of his Danish heritage.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Garner VFW and American Legion. He proudly served in the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit for forty-five years. He also was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Iowa Tall Corn Chapter 99.
