Forest City - Albert O. Cordes, 89, of Forest City, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 636 N. Best St., Forest City, Iowa with Pastor Doug Farrell officiating.

Visitation will be held 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. Interment will be held in Madison Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church in his name.

Albert Orville Cordes was born October 25th, 1924 to John and Hinderika (Janssen) Cordes on a farm north of Titonka. He attended German Township #9 school for 8 years and completed 9th grade in Titonka High School. On June 26th, 1946 he was united in marriage to Mildred E. Heyer at the Presbyterian Church in Woden, IA. They moved to Forest City, IA and were employed by Eyman Implement for ten years. On January 2nd, 1957 they purchased the International Harvester Implement business in Corwith, IA, which they operated for 14 ½ years. After selling the implement business they moved to Buffalo Center, IA. There Al started his insurance business and worked in that field until his retirement. In 1977 they moved to Forest City.

Al lost his wonderful wife and business partner, Mildred, on Nov. 6th, 2002. In 2004, Al was united in marriage to Carol (Buns) Bilyeu. God took this wonderful woman to heaven on December 31st, 2009. Al knew the Lord as his personal Savior, loved to study his Bible and faithfully attended Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City.

Al is survived by his daughter Carla Baker, of Forest City; step-daughter Ginger (Lynn) Dau, of Foxhome, MN; grandchildren Heather, Corwin, Rebekah, David, James, Leann, Carrie; ten great grandchildren; his sister Margreta Smidt, of Belmond, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; three brothers, John, Ralph and Kenneth; one sister Rose Karels; sister-in-laws Gladys Cordes, Eunice Cordes, Marie Cordes and Lila Heyer; brother-in-laws Esder Smidt, William Karels and Bernard Heyer; in addition to Carol's four brothers and two sisters.
