Raised by his foster parents, Emil and Loretta Harten, he was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Following his education, Albert began his professional journey working at a local grocery store for several years before moving to Garner, where he worked for a farmer. He was honored to be recognized as the Polka King of Iowa by the club. Albert was a member of the Hobo Days Association and an organizer of the Sunday Hobo Day Craft Show with Phyllis, which they helped start.
