Dennis Brumm, 86, of Britt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd St. S.E., Britt with Rev. Fr. Ben Valentine officiating. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 4th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Denny was born January 18, 1939, in Stacyville, IA to Delphin and Rose (Salz) Brumm. As a young child, Denny moved with his family to New Hampton, IA, where he received his education, first at St. Mary’s Catholic School, and then graduated from New Hampton High School. He attended Upper Iowa University (UIU) in Fayette, IA, where he received his degree in 1961. He received his master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma and completed additional studies at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.
Denny was united in marriage to Judy Maxson in Fayette, IA in 1961 and to this union three daughters were born. They began their life in Britt where Denny taught math and business for 36 years. Mr. Brumm cared for all his students who will remember his jokes and “Benny Binomial”. Upon retiring, he worked part-time at the Britt Lumber Company. He and Judy enjoyed spending winters in Tucson, AZ.
Denny enjoyed sports. He received all-state recognition in football at New Hampton and was selected as an all-conference player at UIU. He was selected into the UIU Athletic Hall of Fame. He stayed involved with athletics as a sports official for the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. He worked boys and girls sports throughout the years. He was selected 16 times to work boys and girls basketball at the State tournament in Des Moines. He was selected to the IHSAA Officials Hall of Fame and the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame. He was the voice of the Eagles of Britt/West Hancock football and track for many years. He received the West Hancock Hall of Fame and Past Educator of the Year awards. He was an avid Britt/West Hancock Eagle fan, UIU Peacock fan, and Green Bay Packer fan.
He enjoyed being with friends and traveling, however, his greatest joy was family, and he loved watching his grandchildren participate in all their activities.
Denny was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus, Britt Lions Club, and served two terms on the Britt City Council. Denny was on the Hobo Foundation and worked countless volunteer hours for Hobo Days. His passion was working at the Hobo Museum and talking to people from around the world. In 2016, Denny was the Grand Marshall of the Hobo Day parade.
He was active in Relay for Life. In the 2002 Relay for Life, Denny and Judy were Honorary Chairpersons.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy, of 63 years, two daughters, Jill (John) Kruger of Hayfield, MN and Kim (Mike) Boekelman of Sergeant Bluff, IA; grandchildren Meagan Tycz of Phoenix, AZ, Cole (Johanna) Kruger of Hayfield, MN, Kate Kruger of Hayfield MN, Tana (Ryan) Admire of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Ty Boekelman of Spirit Lake, IA; great-granddaughters Jacee and Blair Kruger of Hayfield, MN; siblings, Don (Irene) Brumm and Rita Sanderson; in-laws, Larry (Pat) Maxson, Ron (Mary) Maxson, and Peg (Terry) Emanuel; nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Redasky, parents, sister, Ruth (Ed) Wilson, brother-in-law, Carman Sanderson; parents-in-law, Dale and Gladys Maxson, and sister-in-law, Becky Maxson.
