James Roger Brunsen was born September 22, 1944, in Woden. He attended school at Corwith-Wesley until the 8th grade and worked on the family farm. On August 3, 1963, he married Sandra Peterson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They spent their entire married life in Britt, where they raised their two children, Terry and Tammy. Jim worked at Britt Farmer’s Co-op Elevator and then started his own trucking business, Jim’s Freightline. He was later employed at Marting Manufacturing in Britt until his retirement at the age of 70. He faced several health challenges later in life, including a heart attack and several cancer diagnoses. Despite these hardships, he maintained a positive outlook and found joy in helping his daughter Tammy at Mat’s Place in Garner, taking on various roles as needed. He always looked forward to sitting and visiting with everyone and playing cards with the guys in the morning. Jim especially enjoyed when the kids came in to get a toy out of the treasure chest for them to take home. He also enjoyed trips to Colorado and was eagerly anticipating going again this summer.
Jim served his community with pride as a member of the Britt Fire Department for 25 years.
Jim is survived by his son, Terry (Deserae) Brunsen of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Tammy Lenox of Garner; six grandchildren, Colton (Tabitha) and Myles Brunsen, Dillon and Skyler Lenox and Trevor and Paige Hosman; a brother, Richard Brunsen of Algona; two sisters, Donna Banta of Garner and Sandra Brunsen of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
