James "Jim" Wold

James “Jim” Wold, 94, and wife, Wanda, 96, of Garner who were married for 73 years passed away in the same room hours apart on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Concord Care Center in Garner. 

Funeral services for Jim and Wanda will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating.  Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or MercyOne North Iowa Hospice. 

James Oliver Wold, the son of Elmer and Gustava (Johanson) Wold, was born June 1, 1927 at St. Cloud, Minnesota.  He attended school at Santiago, Minnesota and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  Following his honorable discharge he returned home and worked for his father in the hardware store.  On May 30, 1948 he married Wanda Brown at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Santiago, MN.  They lived in Santiago before moving to Mount Vernon, IL where Jim was a salesman for DeLaval Milking Equipment.  In 1959 they moved to Glencoe, MN and in 1966 to Garner.  Jim began working for AAL Insurance in 1972 and continued until his retirement.  He enjoyed wintering in Arizona, golfing, casinos, fishing and deer hunting.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garner VFW Post 5515 and Garner Men’s Golf League. 

Jim is survived by his three children, Candy (Bill) Engstler of Clear Lake, Juli (Michael) Thackery of Ventura and Kerry (Chris) Wold of Danville, IN; grandchildren, Kari (Steve) Jones, Jami (David) Enright, Brian (Emily) Engstler, Dan (Heidi) Engstler, Nicholas (Michele) Thackery, Seth (Jennifer) Thackery, Melodee (Dustin) Ward, Samantha (Michael) Quinn and Kayleigh (Cody) Rees; a sister, Judith Modene of Perrysburg, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda; grandson, Joshua James Wold; and two brothers, Norman and Jordan Wold.
