Joann Nola Jacobs

Joann Nola Jacobs, 83, of Thompson, Iowa died Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with Pastor Judy Wozniak officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Burial of cremains will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson.

Joann Nola Gjerstad was born on a farm near Buffalo Center on May 31, 1934, the daughter of Laurance and Myrtle (Helgren) Gjerstad . She was baptized by her cousin Rev. I Riesem and was confirmed in 1946 at Bethany Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Ronald Jacobs on March 8, 1958 also at Bethany Lutheran Church.

She worked for ASCS, Winnebago County Courthouse and Peoples State Bank. She also enjoyed helping on the farm, especially running the combine during harvest time. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ron, listening to Blue Grass music, having coffee and playing cards with her friends.

She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and grandchildren, she took pride in being a grandma and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joann is survived by her husband, Ronald of Thompson, son, John Jacobs; grandchildren, Erin and husband Jared Cross of Clarion, IA, Emily and husband Frank Anderson of Marion, IA and Andrew Jacobs of Plymouth, MN and great-grandchildren, Sidney, Brenna and Aiden Cross, Grace, Owen and Oliver Anderson.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Scott and David Jacobs; sister, Lois Halvorson; brother, Dr. Paul Gjerstad and many cousins.
