Roger Kenet Ginapp, beloved son of Kenet and Inez (Bell) Ginapp, was born on July 20, 1942, in Alexander, Iowa. He began his educational journey in Alexander before graduating from Belmond High School in 1960, where he distinguished himself as an excellent athlete, particularly in basketball and baseball. Roger pursued higher education at Iowa State Teachers’ College (now University of Northern Iowa) for a year, followed by studies at Ellsworth Junior College and Wayne State Teachers’ College. Throughout his college years, he continued to excel in basketball and baseball, earning the honor of basketball player of the year at Wayne State. It was during his time at Ellsworth that he met Patricia Hurst, who would become his lifelong partner. They were married on June 8, 1962, at the Eldora United Church of Christ. Roger dedicated his professional career to teaching and coaching, beginning with three years at Wyoming, Iowa, then two years in Irwin, Iowa. A call from a childhood friend from Belmond, Don Hoppel, led him to Garner-Hayfield High School, where he joined the business education department and coached a variety of sports until his retirement. His teams frequently reached state-level competitions, including girls’ six-on-six and five-on-five basketball, as well as boys’ and girls’ golf. Roger will be fondly remembered for his easy-going demeanor and calm presence, qualities that endeared him to students and athletes alike. His commitment to education and sports left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Roger is survived by his wife Pat, of Garner; two sons, Todd (Susan) Ginapp of Aurora, CO and Scott (Robin) Ginapp of Garner; grandchildren, Michael Ginapp, Matthew Ginapp, Kylie (Nelson) Casey, Jori Meints, Braden (Haley) Meints, Kristian (Kristen) Bravo, Joshua (Ashley) Lyons and Meagan (Christopher) Della Ratta; great-grandchildren, James and Freddie Meints, Maverick and Kasper Casey, Ryan Ginapp, Eliana and Lincoln Bravo, Elijah Lyons and Vail Della Ratta; a brother, Bob (Theresa) Ginapp of Rockmart, GA; a brother-in-law, Rob (Ginny) Hurst of Westmont, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
