GARNER - Sharon K. Reece, 70 of Garner passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 surrounded by her family and in the care of her former co-workers at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 29th at the United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St. in Garner with a VFW auxiliary service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Sharon Kay Reece, the daughter of Thomas and Betty (Rastetter) Kennedy, was born October 20, 1943 in Buckeye, Iowa where she lived her entire youth. She attended Buckeye Community Schools and graduated from Alden High School in 1962. Sharon was united in marriage to Bill Reece on October 26, 1962. When first married, they lived in Spencer, Buckeye and Iowa Falls, and in 1968, settled in Duncan. She served others while working as a Nurses Aid for 28 years, including over 22 years at Hancock Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2002. She also worked with Bill in managing the Duncan Community Hall for 25 years, stepping down in 1997. After retiring, she volunteered her time in helping out at the Garner VFW.
Sharon was integral in her children and grandchildren's lives and could always be counted on to brighten family gatherings with her smile and cooking skills. She enjoyed traveling, especially ocean cruises, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean, visiting with friends at the VFW and time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Bill Reece of Duncan; son, Chad (Kristine) Reece of Forest City; daughter, Shelly Reece (John Rapp) of Garner; grandchildren Matt Reece-Abboud of Omaha, Clint Dangelser (Chelsea Ellingson) of Cedar Falls, McKenzie Reece of Ames, Thomas Reece of Forest City, Reagan Reece of Forest City, Greg Gjerde of Garner and Ellie Reece of Forest City; brother, Curtis Kennedy of Iowa Falls; uncle and aunt, Don and Doris Rastetter of Jewell; and special companion, Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Kennedy; mother, Betty Kennedy Fitz; and uncles, Gerald, Sam and Edward Rastetter.
