Phyllis C. Lau, 92, of Mason City passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24th at Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, 341 19th St SW, Mason City, with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 23rd at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Phyllis Carol Lau, the daughter of Paul and Loudel (Cheney) Harrington, was born February 26, 1934, in Mason City. She attended Mason City Community schools and received her GED in 1980. On March 9, 1952, she was married to Benard “Art” Asche at First United Methodist Church in Mason City. They made their home in Garner until 1967, when they moved to Farmington, Minnesota, and later to Willmar, Minnesota. Art passed away unexpectedly in 1974. In 1976, she moved back to Garner, and on September 16, 1978 was married to Paul Lau at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. In December of 2007, Paul passed away. Phyllis continued to live in Garner until 2010, when she returned to Mason City. She enjoyed collecting dolls, gardening, playing cards, bingo, dominoes, and cooking and baking for her family.
She was a member of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church in Mason City and the Garner VFW Auxiliary.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Greg (Karen) Asche of Andover, MN, Peggy Matous of Mason City, Carol (Byron) Hayunga of Montevideo, MN and Dawn (Stephen) Hensley of Mason City; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; step-children, Graydon (Sally) Lau, Janelle (Tom) Renner, Dennis (Michelle) Lau and Mark Lau; step son-in-law, Dave Scott; 31 step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren; several great-great step grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Portis and Deb (Roger) Schmidt; sister-in-law, Marilyn Harrington; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Art Asche and Paul Lau; stepdaughter, Marian Scott; grandson, Michael Hayunga; brothers, Bill and Larry Harrington; and sister-in-law, Gale Harrington.
